Qigong
Qigong is an Eastern
style of exercise invented many years ago in China. In addition
to strengthen our muscles, qigong can improve blood circulation.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, there is a flow of energy
in our body called "Qi" which is where the word "qigong" comes from.
How "Qi" is important
to our body? Suppose "Qi" can flow nicely in our body, we will be
in good health. However, once "Qi" energy can't smoothly run along
the body, we will get sick. So, by practicing qigong, our body gains
an advantage in that it helps the "Qi" energy to flow comfortably
in the body.
There are three principles
in practicing qigong.
1. Move slowly and
continuously
2. The movements are
related to rhythm of breath
3. Concentrate on each
movement
With all three principles,
those practicing qigong regularly will gain several advantages which
are:
1. This kind of exercise
is suitable for elderly persons and those with gonarthritis for
it requires no jumping, therefore, it is not harmful to joints.
2. Though, the movements
of qigong are slow, many feel tired and sweat a lot after exercising.
Some may have faster heartbeat as if they just do an aerobic.
3. By controlling the
rhythm of breath and concentrating on the movements, those practicing
qigong can practice meditation at the same time.
4. Those practicing
qigong can absorb energy from the nature surrounding them. This
will increase the "Qi" energy and always keeps freshening the body.
In conclusion, we can
say that qigong is genuinely an exercise of the New Age Era which
is not only suitable for elderly persons but also for people of
every sex and age.
