Treat Hiccups with Food

The facts that food changes our way of life and we are what we eat can be best illustrated with the story of Mr. Pathan Amanawin.
Mr. Pathan Amanawin.

Mr. Pathan is a mechanic teacher whose teaching schedule is quite uncertain. This is the reason why he didn't have time to carefully choose the food he ate. He mostly ate whatever food he could find whenever he felt hungry and liked eating snacks but drinking little water.

Then one day he had to change everything he routinely behaved because he got severe hiccups. His hiccups lasted for three days and every time he got hiccups, his body would harshly move causing absolute pain to his body. In the end, he decided to go to a hospital but the hiccups were gone for only a short while before resuming. Things were like this for almost two years.

It was until Mr. Pathan listened to Dr. Lalita's lecture on natural treatment that he realized that things he daily ate could be harmful to his body. One of the harmful substances was monosodium glutamate or MSG. I will briefly explain risks of taking MSG for those who still don't know about it. One of MSG's adverse reactions is that it can hurt your stomach. For those collecting antiques, you can put pieces of antiques into the water mixed with MSG for one night. You will find out that your antiques are shinier than before. MSG can even clean rust out of iron. I dare not imagine how it reacts to your stomach.

In addition to MSG, Mr. Pathan told me that overly eating can cause severe hiccups for it results in bloating, and flatulence. Eating too salty or oily food can also cause hiccups. Moreover, soda water, which increases gas in our stomach, and chilly food or drinks can all cause hiccups.

After considering things he normally ate, Mr. Pathan, thus, decided to choose natural treatment for his ailment because he was certain that this way of treatment would surely help him recover. In the beginning of the treatment, he still got hiccups from time to time especially when he ate inappropriate food. The treatments are integrated with various fields of natural treatment. It starts by having Mr. Pathan eat appropriate food to remove poisons from his body such as eating fresh fruits and vegetables but not taking meat. Traditional Thai medicine has also been adopted to treat his hiccups. He takes traditional Thai herbal medicine such as Benjathad Osod and Thad Banjob in order to adjust the four elements in his body into balance condition. He also receives acupuncture treatment at the same time.

Nowadays, Mr. Pathan still receives treatment here at Balavi because his hiccup condition has become chronic for they occur for more than ten years. Therefore, it is difficult for him to recover in a short time but he obviously gets better everyday.

"Even though sometimes there are no choices for us to be what we want to be, there is still an important choice we can choose for ourselves that is to eat the right food." Mr. Pathan said before leaving to receive another acupuncture treatment.
